Philip Roigard, founder of Wrightly

Wrightly started with my own books. As a sole trader with another small business, I was juggling separate tools for invoices, receipts, GST and income tax. When it came to filing my tax return I quickly realised I was swamped with work I had brushed off while running my operations. I wanted one place that did all of it throughout the year automatically, so I built it. The timing was great open banking had finally been rolled out through NZ banks, previously this could only be done by the big players with established banking networks.

My background has changed over the 10+ years. Starting my career in game programming building realtime highly available game services to thousands of players. Then moving on to working in big data warehousing and analytics, through to implementing financial technologies. Now I'm quite involved in the AI engineering sphere helping improve critical infrastructure in health tech.

I live in Taupo, New Zealand on a farm with pet sheep and chickens that just keep multiplying! I really want to promote the lifestyle in New Zealand that we can be anywhere.

Today Wrightly is one app for NZ sole traders and small businesses. You can send invoices and quotes, and get paid online. It works out your GST and income tax from your records. The copilot reads your receipts and suggests categories, and you approve them. You can connect your NZ bank so your transactions come in on their own. It also keeps a mileage logbook, and tracks projects and timesheets.

If you want to get in touch, you can reach me on LinkedIn or through the contact page.
